All US Mower heads leave the factory with blades spinning clockwise from the drive end view on flails and from the blade side on rotaries. Particularly on flails, this is designed for cut debris to exit the right-hand side of the mower.

Yes, you can. This can be done by switching the supply and return hoses on the motor, rearranging the orientation of the motor, and reversing the check valve. We advise individuals to contact US Mower prior to attempting this on your own.

Aside from the weight of the mower and coupling system, each attachment is partnered with an appropriate motor sized to match the system PSI and auxiliary flow on your parent machine. This is critical, to achieve the correct RPMs for maximum productivity, but also to protect parts on the machine itself. Over or under-powering the attachment can result in breaking bearings, damaging the shaft and/or blades as well as wearing out your equipment faster.

This is a particularly critical consideration when individuals are considering a purchase of a used piece of equipment from an auction or other source. We are happy to investigate what size motor you will need if you plan to run it on a given piece of equipment and determine if the size currently installed will work for your application. We can also fabricate new mounting systems to match your need if the existing piece does not fit.

Some excavators are equipped with variable flow systems, which can accommodate a larger group of motor sizes. Be sure to communicate this with your US Mower sales representative so we can match you accordingly.

Greasing is subject to many variables you may experience in the field. Extreme temperatures particularly impact grease performance far more than oil. Oil will maintain its consistency uniformly under a wider range of heat or cold exposure, whereas grease behaves a lot like butter in your kitchen. It’s a lot more susceptible to these fluctuations.

Higher temperatures will create a more liquid consistency and the grease loses viscosity. Colder temperatures will increase viscosity to a molasses-like consistency.

So what does this mean with respect to how often I should grease?

The ideal temperature for grease is between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit; applying it every four (4) hours of operation is recommended. However, should temperatures exceed 80 degrees, we recommend checking every two (2) hours to ensure you have proper coverage. In colder temperatures, the equipment will warm with the operation and can follow the 4-hour schedule. Depending on the circumstances, we may recommend greasing at the start or end of a job. This is in addition to every two (2) or four (4) hours during operation. Starting the job with fresh greases is a good idea to ensure coverage. Greasing at the end of a job can be ideal if the equipment is expected to be cold at the start of the next use as the grease does not flow as well. Separation can also happen should an attachment sit unused for a length of time (e.g., non-mowing seasons). We recommend purging this grease and applying new in this instance.

The thing to remember is that insufficient greasing can destroy bearings, even in a very short amount of time. You can never over-grease. The breather allows excess to purge.

Storage is also something to consider. We advise operators to keep grease in the cab to maintain steady temperatures. In instances where grease has been superheated and then cools, it can adopt a cottage-cheese-like texture (e.g., excess of 200 degrees F) and is no longer usable.

US Mower requires a case drain line on all of our heads because our attachments are designed for industrial use although some are used by individuals for personal applications. This is not the case for all brush mowers sold by our competitors, which are designed for primarily commercial use (e.g., non-contract work, personal, et cetera). Our attachments are built to last through a heavy operation.

A case drain line protects your motor from over-pressurization, which can cause damage to your investment. This is a larger concern for equipment being used for industrial applications. As such, we do not separate those heads that are being used for industrial versus commercial use so all of our customers have access to the same warranty coverage.

In some instances, customers need to plumb this case drain line because their equipment is not already outfitted for this. This can be performed by your equipment dealer if customers are not comfortable doing it themselves. We can also offer step-by-step instructions to help protect your equipment and keep it lasting for years to come.

US Mower has a handful of manuals available on our website at the link below. In the event none of those are correct, a US Mower rep is always willing to help track one down for you. For most equipment, we need to know the type of head (EX30, EX50HDR, et cetera), the year of manufacture, and if available, a serial number. We can also locate manuals by way of the original buyer (if a dealer, et cetera) and year of manufacture.

In the process of finding the most protection and functionality for our mowers, we developed the Bi-Directional Function Relief Valve (BDRV) as a means to provide an added layer of defense for hydraulic systems, as well as offer other functions depending on the capabilities of the parent machine. See the link below to view the dedicated page to the BDRV and other protections available.

Anyone is welcome to purchase directly from US Mower, however, we strongly encourage customers to utilize their local dealers. Several of our dealers keep our product in stock and this relationship helps us shorten lead times and manage pricing to end users. Dealers are also a great resource for helping you with any parent machine questions and how they relate to using your mowing equipment.

US Mower is always looking for new partners in business and ways to give customers more access to our product. Please contact Matt Workman at matt@usmower.com to inquire about more details.
